The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 362 East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Larry Bagnell, Bill Blaikie, Rick Casson, Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Keith Martin, Pat O'Brien, Gordon O'Connor and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Odina Desrochers for Gilles-A. Perron and Cheryl Gallant for Betty Hinton.

 

In attendance: As Individual: Joseph P. Culligan, Consultant. Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a draft budget respecting the Committee’s proposed travel to the United States for consideration by the Committee on April 5, 2005.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of National Defence, The Chief of the Defence Staff, and General Eric Findley be invited to appear in relation to Main Estimates and changes made to the NORAD agreement last summer, on April 5, 2005.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet from 3:30 to 5:30 on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 to hear from the Minister of Veterans Affairs on the Main Estimates.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 18, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of the acquisition of submarines by the Canadian Forces.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
