The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 4:00 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Jeannot Castonguay, Paul Crête, Georges Farrah, Raymonde Folco, Monique Guay, Judi Longfield, Joe McGuire, Val Meredith, Anita Neville, Carol Skelton, Diane St-Jacques, Greg Thompson and Alan Tonks.

Acting Member(s) present: Yvon Godin for Libby Davies and Larry McCormick for Tony Ianno.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie MacKenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources Development.

The Order of Reference dated Tuesday, February 13, 2001 and Wednesday, February 21, 2001, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill C-2, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act and the Employment Insurance (Fishing) Regulations be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

The Honourable Jane Stewart made an opening statement, following which she and her associates responded to questions for Committee members.

At 6:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
