Thursday, February 21, 2002

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Raymonde Folco, Monique Guay, Dale Johnston, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Carol Skelton, Larry Spencer, Diane St-Jacques and Alan Tonks.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr and Julie Mackenzie, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From the Disabled Women's Network of Canada: Doreen Demas, Chair. From the "Femmes Autochtones du Québec": Manon Lamontagne, Consultant. From the Immigrant Women of Saskatchewan, Regina Chapter: Martha Mettle, Vice-President. From the Manitoba Women's Advisory Council: Crystal Laborero, Council Member. From the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women: Rita Warner, Chair.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference dated December 3rd, 2001 and to section 44 of the Employment Equity Act, the Committee resumed consideration of the statutory review of the Act (See minutes of Proceedings of December11, 2001 – Meeting No.44)

Doreen Demas and Manon Lamontagne made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Martha Mettle, Crystal Laborero and Rita Warner made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
