MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 41

Tuesday, April 4, 2000

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 9:47 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Andy Scott, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Michel Bellehumeur, Carolyn Bennett, Chuck Cadman, Paul DeVillers, Ivan Grose, Peter MacKay, John Maloney, John McKay, John Reynolds, Jacques Saada and Andy Scott.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Senior Analyst.

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed, - That the Committee approve a budget submission of $84,000 for the budget period of 01/04/00 to 31/03/01.

It was agreed, - That the Committee begin clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-3 on Tuesday, April 11, 2000.

It was agreed, - That a Sub-Committee of 9 members composed of 5 Liberals and 1 member from each of the Opposition Parties be created to deal with the November 30,1999 Order of Reference on organized crime.

Carolyn Bennett moved, - That Paul DeVillers take the Chair of the Sub-Committee.

After debate, the motion was agreed to on a show of hands.

NAYS: 4

It was agreed, - That the Whips of each Party designate the membership of the Sub-Committee.

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
