Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, the committee commenced its study of potential trade implications of transporting goods in railway containers.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 2:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:17 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $4,600.00, for the study of potential impacts of the ArriveCAN application on certain Canadian sectors, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $9,350.00, for the study of potential trade implications of transporting goods in railway containers, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study on the potential consequences of the rules of origin defined by the Canada—United States—Mexico Agreement on the importation of electric batteries and its effects on the competitiveness of Canadian and Quebec companies working in the field of transportation electrification; that the committee allocate a minimum of three meetings to conduct its study and that the committee report its observations and recommendations to the House.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of potential trade impacts of the United States Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 on certain firms and workers in Canada, the proposed preliminary submission for the committee’s travel to Washington during winter 2023 be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of trade opportunities for Canadian businesses in the Indo-Pacific, the proposed preliminary submissions for the committee’s travel to Singapore and India during winter 2023 be adopted.

At 2:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
