Pursuant to the order of reference of Monday, May 16, 2022, the committee resumed its study of the Canada–People’s Republic of China relations.

Michel Leduc, Vincent Delisle and Eduard van Gelderen made statements and, with Philipe Batani, answered questions.

At 8:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:10 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Paula Glick, Ari Van Assche, Daniel Garant and Stephen McLennan made statements and answered questions.

At 9:16 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:19 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Canada-People’s Republic of China Relations, the proposed budget in the amount of $56,341.91 for the committee’s travel to Washington in July 2023 be adopted; that the budget be submitted to the Board of Internal Economy for approval; and that the clerk be authorized to purchase appropriate gifts and make the necessary arrangements for meals.

It was agreed, — That the draft News Release in relation to the committee’s report entitled “A Threat to Canadian Sovereignty: National Security Dimensions of the Canada-People’s Republic of China Relationship" be adopted.

At 9:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
