Minutes of Proceedings
The Chair presented the Fifth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows:
Your subcommittee met on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, to consider the business of the committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:
1. That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights and hear from groups and individuals on how victims of crime can be better supported; that the committee dedicate its meetings of Thursday, June 3, Tuesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 10, 2021, to hearing witnesses; that, at the meeting of Thursday, June 3, officials from the Department of Justice and the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness be invited to appear for the first hour, and representatives of the Office of the Federal Ombudsman for Victims of Crime be invited for the second hour; and that, with regards to the witnesses for the meetings of Tuesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 10, the recognized parties submit their list of suggested witnesses to the clerk no later than the end of the day on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, provided that the Liberals and Conservatives can submit four each and the Bloc Québécois and the New Democratic Party can submit two each.
It was agreed, — That the Fifth Report from the subcommittee be concurred in.
Julie Thompson and Carole Morency made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Heidi Illingworth made a statement and answered questions.
At 1:01 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
