[Translation]

Honourable members, I see a quorum.

[English]

I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot receive other types of motions, cannot entertain points of order, and cannot participate in debate.
We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.
I am ready to receive motions for the chair.
I would like to move that we elect Cathy McLeod—
    Some hon. members: Oh, oh!
Mr. Mike Bossio: I mean, MaryAnn Mihychuk. Sorry. I apologize. I was just thinking of Cathy. I'm sorry.
I nominate MaryAnn Mihychuk as the chair, please.
That's a good start to the year.
    Some hon. members: Oh, oh!
It has been moved by Mike Bossio that MaryAnn Mihychuk be elected as chair of the committee.
    Are there any further motions?
Seeing none, is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and MaryAnn Mihychuk duly elected chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
The Clerk: I invite Ms. Mihychuk to take the chair.
Thank you, everyone. It's a great honour to be here. This is one of the most important committees. Our initiatives for reconciliation started last year and continue this year. Indigenous people are the youngest population overall in Canada. They provide a huge economic opportunity and will bring great value to Canada's economy.
I want to thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you.
I'd like to call for a motion for adjournment at this time. Then we can move on to more of the business at the next meeting.
    I move that we adjourn.
    (Motion agreed to)
Thank you. The meeting is adjourned.
