The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in camera at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Peter Stoffer, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvain Chicoine, Corneliu Chisu, Parm Gill, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Bryan Hayes, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Manon Perreault and Peter Stoffer.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Chisholm for John Rafferty.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Julian Fantino, P.C., M.P., Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Mary Chaput, Deputy Minister; LGen Walter Semianiw, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Communications and Commemoration.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from the Minister of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to discuss the Enhanced New Veterans Charter review and the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2013-14.

That the Committee hear from Veterans Affairs Canada officials on November 21, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to discuss the original design of the New Veterans Charter.

That the Committee hear from Veterans Affairs Canada case-management and rehabilitation officials on December 3, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

That the Committee hear from Veterans Affairs Canada senior officials on December 10, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

That the Committee hear from Dr. Cameron Mustard and Judy Geary on November 26, 2013, to discuss modern disability management and how provincial systems support injured workers.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 

At 11:08 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:12 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, October 17, 2013 and section 20.1 of the Enhanced New Veterans Charter Act, the Committee commenced the statutory review of the Act.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2013-2014: Votes 1b and 5b under VETERANS AFFAIRS, referred to the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013.
 

The Chair called Vote 1b under VETERANS AFFAIRS.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Mary Chaput and LGen Walter Semianiw, answered questions.

 

At 12:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from the Veterans Ombudsman on November 28, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to discuss the New Veterans Charter review and his related reports.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs hear from Jim Scott and two representatives from Equitas on December 5, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

 

At 12:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
