The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a video recorded session at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Leon Benoit, Blaine Calkins, Joe Daniel, Anne-Marie Day, Royal Galipeau, Claude Gravelle, David J. McGuinty, Kennedy Stewart and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Pierre Nantel for François Lapointe.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, Canadian Office: Christopher Smillie, Senior Advisor, Government Relations. As individuals: Larry Hughes, Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dalhousie University; Jack Mintz, Palmer Chair in Public Policy, School of Public Policy, University of Calgary; Michal Moore, Professor, School of Public Policy and ISEE Core Faculty, University of Calgary. Canadian Energy Pipeline Association: Brenda Kenny, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on December 14, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the current and future state of oil and gas pipelines and refining capacity in Canada.
 

Jack Mintz, Michal Moore and Brenda Kenny, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, Christopher Smillie and Larry Hughes made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
