The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:46 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, John Carmichael, Cheryl Gallant, Dan Harris, Hon. Mike Lake, Hélène LeBlanc, Phil McColeman, Hon. Geoff Regan, Kennedy Stewart, David Sweet, Glenn Thibeault and Mike Wallace.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canada Goose Inc.: Kevin Spreekmeester, Vice-President, Global Marketing. Startup Canada: Victoria Lennox, Chief Executive Officer; Dave Waters, Advisor, Government, Industry and Academic Advisory Council. As individuals: Daniel S. Drapeau, Litigator, Advisor and Trade-Mark Agent, DrapeauLex Inc.; Douglas Barber, Distinguished Professor-in-Residence, McMaster University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 1st, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the Intellectual Property Regime in Canada.
 

Dave Waters, Kevin Spreekmeester, Douglas Barber and Daniel S. Drapeau made statements and, with Victoria Lennox, answered questions.

 

Geoff Regan moved, — That the Committee undertake a study of the subject matter of the changes to SR&ED contained in Part 1 as well as Part 4 Division 14 of Bill C-45, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures, and report of its findings to the House no later than Monday November 5, 2012.

 

On motion of Mike Lake, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 12:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:55 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee conduct a one-day hearing on the current state of engineering in Canada and that the proceedings be made available to the public.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
