The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Cheryl Gallant, Dan Harris, Hon. Mike Lake, Hélène LeBlanc, Phil McColeman, Hon. Geoff Regan, Kennedy Stewart, David Sweet, Glenn Thibeault and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Devinder Shory for John Carmichael.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association: Jim Keon, President; C. Benjamin Gray, Vice-President, Legal and General Counsel, Mylan Pharmaceuticals ULC. Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization: Gail Garland, President and Chief Executive Officer. As individuals: George Dixon, Vice-President, Research, University of Waterloo; Norman Siebrasse, Professor, Faculty of Law, University of New Brunswick.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 1st, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the Intellectual Property Regime in Canada.
 

Norman Siebrasse, by videoconference from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Jim Keon, Gail Garland and George Dixon made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:43 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the Intellectual Property Regime in Canada, the proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $ 6 600 be adopted.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
