The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Mario Laframboise, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Bevington, Lois Brown, Sukh Dhaliwal, Candice Hoeppner, Brian Jean, Gerard Kennedy, Mario Laframboise, Colin Mayes and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Tilly O'Neill-Gordon for Colin Mayes, Louis Plamondon for Roger Gaudet, Francis Scarpaleggia for Gerard Kennedy, Francis Scarpaleggia for Hon. Joseph Volpe and Brian Storseth for Merv Tweed.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Transport: Helena Borges, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Gateways & Infrastructure; Kevin Lawless, Senior Strategic Policy and Special Project Officer, Surface Transportation Policy. Canadian National: Paul Miller, Chief Safety and Transportation Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday April 2, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of high speed rail in Canada.
 

Paul Miller made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:22 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Helena Borges made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:05 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, the Committee hear witnesses on Bill C-310, An Act to Provide Certain Rights to Air Passengers, and that clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-37, An Action Plan for the National Capital Commission, be postponed.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
