The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Dona Cadman, Ron Cannan, Raymonde Folco, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: David Anderson for Ed Komarnicki and Rick Dykstra for Dean Allison.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: André Léonard, Analyst; Hilary Jensen, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Frank Vermaeten, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Skills and Employment Branch; Louis Beauséjour, Director General, Employment Insurance Policy, Skills and Employment Branch. Service Canada: Liliane Binette, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations Branch.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion agreed to on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, to report the motion on Poverty on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, that the motion be amended to report the motion on Friday, November 20, 2009, instead.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, November 5, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-56, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Frank Vermaeten, Louis Beauséjour, and Liliane Binette, answered questions.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
