The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met by videoconference at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, Hon. Wayne Easter, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. Mark Eyking, Claude Guimond for France Bonsant and Andrew Kania for Hon. Wayne Easter.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Robert Charlebois, Executive Director, Food Safety and Consumer Protection Directorate; Paul Mayers, Associate Vice-President, Programs. Canadian Grain Commission: Cam Dahl, Commissioner; Norm Woodbeck, Chief Grain Inspector. Department of Health: Samuel Godefroy, Director General, Food Directorate; John W. Salminen, Acting Director, Bureau of Chemical Safety. P & H Milling Group: Derek Jamieson, Vice-President; Gordon Harrison, President, Canadian National Millers Association. Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association: Geoff Hewson, Vice-President, Saskatchewan; Blair Rutter, Executive Director. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of standards of fusarium blight toxin levels in wheat.
 

Derek Jamieson, Gordon Harrison, Geoff Hewson and Nigel Smith made statements.

 

Allan Ling and David Mol by videoconference from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island made statements.

 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, five (5) minutes be allocated to each questioner during the questioning of witnesses.

 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

Samuel Godefroy, Robert Charlebois and Cam Dahl made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
