The Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 1:04 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Yasmin Ratansi, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Art Hanger, Hon. Diane Marleau, Rob Merrifield, Yasmin Ratansi, Paul Szabo and Mervin C. Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Lee Richardson for Dean Allison.

 

Other Members present: James Bezan, Rick Casson, Fabian Manning, Pauline Picard and Penny Priddy.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Chad Mariage, Committee Clerk; Karen Thriepland, Coordinator, Logistics Services. Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food: Jean-François Lafleur, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on National Defence: Samy Agha, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans: Julia Lockhart, Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 107(1), the Subcommittee resumed its study on budget submissions.
 

The Clerk gave a presentation on the financial status of the global envelope for committee activities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence be granted a travel budget of $76,717 to travel to Wainwright, Alberta, to observe medical activity in the field, medical facilities on the base and meet with military spouses, in relation to its study of health services provided to Canadian Force personnel, in May 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence be granted a travel budget of $40,380 to travel to Valcartier, Québec, to meet with soldiers who have recently returned from a tour of combat duty in Afghanistan, observe medical facilities on the base and meet with military spouses, in relation to its study of health services provided to Canadian Force personnel, in June 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be granted a travel budget of $164,153 to travel to Geneva, Switzerland; Brussels, Belgium; Rennes and Paris, France, to attend meetings with government officials and for site visits in relation to its study of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), from May 24 to 30, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted a travel budget of $116,116 to travel to Steveston and Port Hardy, British Columbia; Gimli, Manitoba and Bay of Quinte, Ontario, for public hearings and site visits, in relation to its study of small craft harbours, in May/June 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade be granted an operational budget of $1,500 for additional hospitality expenses.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the request for reimbursement presented by Garry Breitkreuz regarding a witness who submitted his expense claim to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and national Security after the 60-day deadline be concurred in.

 

At 1:32 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
