The Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 1:08 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Dean Allison, Art Hanger, Hon. Diane Marleau, Rob Merrifield, Yasmin Ratansi and Mervin Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Shawn Murphy for Paul Szabo.

 

Other Members present: James Bezan, Rick Casson, Derek Lee, Fabian Manning, Pauline Picard and Lee Richardson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Gilles Larocque, Senior Financial Advisor. Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food: Jean-François Lafleur, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Joint Committee on Scrutiny of Regulations: Christine Lafrance, Joint Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on National Defence: Samy Agha, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Public Accounts: Justin Vaive, Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 107(1), the Subcommittee resumed its study on budget submissions.
 

The Clerk gave a presentation on the financial status of the global envelope for committee activities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be granted a service contract budget of $45,000 for its study on high input costs facing Canadian farmers.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Joint Committee on Scrutiny of Regulations be granted a general operational budget of $21,210.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence be granted an operational budget of $57,850 for its study on health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Accounts be granted a travel budget of $34,977 to travel to Whitehorse, Yukon, to attend the Conference of the Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committees, from September 7 to 10, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade be granted a travel budget of $118,952 to travel to Bogota, Columbia and Panama City, Panama, in relation to its study of the status of free trade agreements and ongoing negotiations between Canada, Colombia and Panama, in May 2008.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the request for reimbursement presented by Fabian Manning regarding a witness who submitted his expense claim to the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans after the 60-day deadline be concurred in.

 

At 1:30 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
