The Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 1:06 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Dean Allison, Art Hanger, Hon. Diane Marleau, Rob Merrifield, Yasmin Ratansi, Paul Szabo and Mervin Tweed.

 

Other Members present: Garry Breitkreuz, Rick Casson, Norman Doyle and Pauline Picard.

 

In attendance: Standing Committee on National Defence: Samy Agha, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration: Andrew Bartholomew Chaplin, Clerk of the Committee. House of Commons: Gilles Larocque, Senior Financial Advisor. Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities: Maxime Ricard, Clerk of the Committee. Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs: Alexandre Roger, Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 107(1), the Subcommittee resumed its study on budget submissions.
 

The Clerk gave a presentation on the financial status of the global envelope for committee activities.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence be granted a travel budget of $249,461 to travel to Kandahar and Kabul, Afghanistan and Brussels, Belgium, for meetings and site visits in relation to its study on Afghanistan, in the Spring-Summer 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security be granted a travel budget of $499 to travel to the Ottawa RCMP Headquarters, for a site visit in relation to its study on Tasers, on March 31, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration be granted a travel budget of $168,449 to travel to Vancouver, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba, for public hearings in relation to its studies of Iraqi refugee issues; temporary foreign workers and undocumented workers; and immigration consultants, from March 30 to April 3, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration be granted a travel budget of $72,253 to travel to Waterloo and Toronto, Ontario and to Montreal, Québec, for public hearings in relation to its studies of Iraqi refugee issues; temporary foreign workers and undocumented workers; and immigration consultants, from April 6 to 11, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration be granted a travel budget of $121,126 to travel to Québec, Québec; Fredericton, New Brunswick; Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, for public hearings in relation to its studies of Iraqi refugee issues; temporary foreign workers and undocumented workers; and immigration consultants, from April 13 to 17, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs be granted a travel budget of $30,736 to travel to Québec City, Québec, for a site visit of the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Valcartier in relation to its study of Veterans Health Care Review and Veterans Independence Program, in April 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs be granted a travel budget of $1,948 to travel to Petawawa, Ontario, for a site visit of the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Petawawa in relation to its study of Veterans Health Care Review and Veterans Independence Program, in April 2008.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the request for reimbursement presented by Mervin Tweed regarding a witness who submitted his expense claim to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities after the 60-day deadline be concurred in.

 

At 1:43 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
