The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Barry Devolin, Hon. Wayne Easter, Roger Gaudet, Jacques Gourde, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Larry Miller and Paul Steckle.

 

Associate Members present: Charlie Angus.

 

Other Members present: Nancy Karetak-Lindell.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Fédération des producteurs de volailles du Québec: Martin Dufresne, President. Chicken Farmers of Canada: Mike Dungate, General Manager; Urs Kressibucher, Second Vice-Chair. Fédération des producteurs d’oeufs de consommation du Québec: Serge Lebeau, Secretary; Serge Lefebvre, President. Canadian Egg Marketing Agency: Laurent Souligny, Chair.

 

By unanimous consent, on motion of André Bellavance, it was agreed, — That, the order of the day be modified with the following one: Item 2 in the first hour, Item 1 and the witnesses in the second hour.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on Safeguard Measures for the Egg Industry and on Article XXVIII for the Chicken Industry.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Wayne Easter moved, — That, the Standing Committee of Agriculture & Agri-Food recommend that the Minister of Agriculture & Agri-Food immediately rescind the changes announced to the Canadian Farm Family Options Program on April 20, 2007 and restore the provisions of the program as originally announced.

That this Motion be made a Report to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
