Meeting No. 7

Thursday, April 11, 2002

The Sub-Committee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Roy Bailey, Colleen Beaumier, Louis Plamondon, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer, Elsie Wayne, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the National Council of Veteran Associations in Canada: H. Clifford Chadderton, Chairman; Brian Forbes, Honorary Secretary General and Legal Counsel; Faye Lavell, Director, National Service Bureau; Jean MacMillan, Assistant Director, Administrative, National Service Bureau.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed consideration of its study on Long-Term Care for Veterans.

Mr. Chadderton made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

The sub-Committee considered a travel budget.

It was agreed, -- That in relation to its study on Long-Term Care for Veterans, the Sub-Committee on Veterans Affairs be authorized to travel to Western Canada from May 26 to 31, 2002 for a fact finding mission, with the necessary staff, and that the proposed travel budget in the amount of $88, 835 be adopted.

At 10:58 a.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
