Meeting No. 5

Thursday, May 17, 2001

The Budget Sub-Committee of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Bill Graham, David Pratt, Susan Whelan, John Williams.

Other Members present: Mac Harb; Charles Hubbard; Michel Guimond.

In attendance: From the Committees and Parliamentary Associations Directorate: Diane Deschamps, Clerk of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs; Marie-Danielle Vachon, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and of the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment; From Financial Services: Linda Biard, Senior Financial Advisor.

Consideration of budget submissions in accordance with Standing Order 107(1).

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs be granted an additional operational budget in the amount of $49,200 for its study on the state of readiness of the Canadian forces (fiscal year 2001-2002).

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food Regulations be granted an operational budget in the amount of $30,000 for the budget period of May 29 to June 22, 2001 (fiscal year 2001-2002) for its study on the Future Role of the Federal Government in Canada's Agriculture Sector.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology be granted an operational budget in the amount of $53,600 (fiscal year 2001-2002) for statutory review of the Lobbyists Registration Act, other studies, and study of bills.

It was agreed, - That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade be granted an additional operational budget in the amount of $38,800 for the budget period of May 1 to June 30, 2001, to cover witness and report expenses in relation to the Committee and its Sub-committees' studies.

It was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs and International Trade be granted a budget of $20,086.80 to travel to Washington, D.C., in June or July 2001 (1 day) for its study of the Softwood Lumber.

At 11:21 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
