The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, John Finlay, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Claude Bachand for Odina Desrochers; Rob Anders for Philip Mayfield; Elsie Wayne for Greg Thompson.
Associate Members present: Rob Anders, André Bachand and Elsie Wayne.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Peter Kasurak, Principal. From the Department of National Defence: General Raymond R. Henault, Chief of the Defence Staff; Lt-Gen. George E.C. Macdonald, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff; Jim Judd, Deputy Minister; Alan Williams, Assistant Deputy Minister, Materiel.
Manfred Kühnapfel from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada introduced the delegation from Russia.
The Chair invited Alexander Nikolaevich Semikolennykh, Deputy Chairman of the Accounting Chamber of the Russian Federation, to make a few opening remarks.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 10 (National Defence - In Service Equipment) of the December 2001 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
Sheila Fraser from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada made a statement.
General Raymond R. Henault, Chief of the Defence Staff from the Department of National Defence made a few opening remarks.
Jim Judd, Deputy Minister, Department of National Defence made a few opening remarks.
The witnesses answered questions.
At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
