MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 42

Thursday, February 28, 2002

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, John Finlay, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Rob Merrifield for Philip Mayfield; Gerald Keddy for Greg Thompson.

Associate Members present: Gerald Keddy and Rob Merrifield.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

The Chair welcomed a delegation from Russia.

At 3:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:52 p.m., the Committee resumed its sitting in camera in Room 308, West Block.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the Draft Report on Chapter 26, (Health Canada - Regulatory Regime of Biologics) and Chapter 27, (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission - Power Reactor Regulation) of the December 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, February 5, 2002, meeting No. 38)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report, as amended, as the SEVENTEENTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the SEVENTEENTH REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider the Public Accounts of Canada 2000-2001. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, September 27, 2001, meeting No. 23 and Tuesday, November 6, 2001, meeting No. 31)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the EIGHTEENTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the EIGHTEENTH REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

At 4:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
