Meeting No. 12

Thursday, April 26, 2001

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Diane Bourgeois, Bonnie Brown, Yvon Charbonneau, Stan Dromisky, James Lunney, Rob Merrifield, Stephen Owen, Hélène Scherrer, Judy Sgro, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Gérard Binet for Jeannot Castonguay

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, research officers.

Appearing: From Health Canada: The Honourable Allan Rock, Minister of Health.

Witness: From Health Canada: Ian C. Green, Deputy Minister.

The Order of Reference dated February 27, 2001, was read as follows:

ORDERED: - That the main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002, laid upon the table on February 27, 2001, be referred to the several Standing Committees of the House as follows:
(9) to the Standing Committee on Health
-- Health, Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25.

The Minister made a statement and, with Ian Green, answered questions.

The Chair called Vote 1 less the amount of $422,674,780.67 voted in interim supply.

Vote 1 less the amount voted in interim supply carried.

The Chair called Vote 5 less the amount of $397,761,250 voted in interim supply.

Vote 5 less the amount voted in interim supply carried.

The Chair called Vote 10 less the amount of $4,937,000 voted in interim supply.

Vote 10 less the amount voted in interim supply carried.

The Chair called Vote 15 less the amount of $102,221,250 voted in interim supply.

Vote 15 less the amount voted in interim supply carried.

The Chair called Vote 20 less the amount of $621,250 voted in interim supply.

Vote 20 less the amount voted in interim supply carried.

The Chair called Vote 25 less the amount of $904,250 voted in interim supply.

Vote 25 less the amount voted in interim supply carried.

ORDERED: -That the Chair report Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 under HEALTH to the House.

It was agreed that the Committee shall not meet on Tuesday, May 1, 2001.

It was agreed that the Chair, in consultation with the Clerk, shall determine the Committee's Order of Business for its meeting of Thursday, May 3, 2001.

At 12:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
