Tuesday, April 24, 2001

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Yvon Charbonneau, Stan Dromisky, James Lunney, Rob Merrifield, Stephen Owen, Hélène Scherrer, Judy Sgro, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, research officers.

Witnesses: From Health Canada: Robert Lafleur, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch; Ian Shugart, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Policy and Communications Branch; Dr. Robert McMurtry, Assistant Deputy Minister, Population and Public Health Branch; Diane Gorman, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch; Patrick Borbey, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch; Orvel Marquardt, Director General, Departmental Financial Planning and Administration Directorate, Corporate Services Branch.

The Committee resumed its information session on the "Plans and Priorities" section of the 2001 - 2002 Main Estimates (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, April 5, 2001, Meeting No. 10).

Ian Shugart made a statement, and, along with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
