The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gilles Bernier, Serge Cardin, David Chatters, Tony Ianno, Ghislain Lebel, Carolyn Parrish, Carmen Provenzano, Werner Schmidt, Guy St-Julien, Brent St. Denis, Tony Valeri and Joseph Volpe.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn and Grant Purvis, Researcher Officers.
Appearing: The Hon. Alfonso L. Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.
Witnesses: From Public Works and Government Services Canada: Michael Nurse, Assistant Deputy Minister, Real Property Services Branch; Colin Boutin, Acting Director Municipal Grants, Real Property Services Branch. From the Department of Justice: Jacques Gauthier, General Counsel.
The Order of Reference dated Tuesday, November 30, 1999, being now read as follows:
ORDERED, -- That Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Municipal Grants Act be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations.
The Chair called Clause 1.
The Minister made a statement and with the witnesses answered questions.
