Meeting No. 27

Wednesday, April 1, 1998

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 6:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade, the Vice-Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Bonnie Brown, Brenda Chamberlain, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick and Bob Nault.

Acting Member present: Yves Rocheleau for Paul Crête.

Associate Member present: Pat Martin.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Bill Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Bankers Association: Alan Young, Vice-President, Policy; Canadian Bankers Association; Santo Alborino, Senior Manager, Employee/Industrial Relations Corporate Human Resources, Bank of Montreal; Andrew Finlay, Senior Counsel, Employment Law Group, Bank of Nova Scotia. From the Northwest Territories Chamber of Mines: Doug Willy, President. From the Alberta Farmers Group: Richard Haydu, Farmer; Garry Smolik, Farmer; Gordon R. Smillie, Farmer. The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (Part 1) and the Corporations and Labour Unions Returns Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, March 24, 1998, Meeting No. 19).

Alan Young made a statement and with Santo Alborino and Andrew Finlay answered questions.

Doug Willy made a statement and answered questions.

Garry Smolik made a statement and with Gordon Smillie and Richard Haydu answered questions.

Clem Paul made a statement and with Shalto Douglas answered questions.

At 8:53 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
