Meeting No. 23

Thursday, March 26, 1998

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:31 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade, the Acting Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Caroline Bennett, Brenda Chamberlain, Dale Johnston, Robert Nault and Byron Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Bonnie Brown, Ray Bonin for Robert Nault until 5:05 p.m., Yves Rocheleau for Paul Crête.

Associate Member present: Pat Martin.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Bill Young, Research Officer.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-19, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (Part 1) and the Corporations and Labour Unions Returns Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, March 24, 1998, Meeting No. 19).

Steve Hindle made a statement and, with Michel Gingras and Andy Zajchowski. answered questions.

Nycole Turmel made a statement and, with Georges Nadeau and Steve Jelly, answered questions.

Thomas Knight made a statement and answered questions.

George Smith, David P. Olsen, Jean Bédard, Leslie A. Lewis and Richard Cavanagh made statements and answered questions.

At 5:32 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
