Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the subcommittee on Friday, April 28, 2023, the subcommittee commenced its study of situation of the Hazaras in Afghanistan.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Richard Cannings gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the subcommittee conduct a study of the meaningful implementation of the “Voices at Risk: Canada’s Guidelines on Supporting Human Rights Defenders”, and the human rights impacts of Canada’s diplomatic support for Canadian extractive industries abroad; that the subcommittee conducts no fewer than two meetings on this topic; and that the subcommittee reports its findings to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

The subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to subcommittee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 7,700.00, for the study of the situation of the Hazaras in Afghanistan, be adopted.

At 3:25 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
