The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

At 11:08 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

That the Seventh Report of the subcommittee, as amended, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your subcommittee met on Thursday, October 5, 2023, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

  1. That, notwithstanding the motion of freshwater adopted on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee shall convene thirteen meetings, after the tenth meeting the committee will assess the possibility of extending the number of meetings and be prepared to interrupt these meetings as necessary to address other business.
  2. That the CEO of Imperial Oil Ltd. and the Alberta Energy Regulator be invited to appear before the committee for a two-hour meeting in October 2023 to discuss the toxic leak of tailings ponds.
  3. That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the committee postpone travel on the study of toxic leak of tailings ponds until Spring 2024.
  4. That the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development and relevant government officials be invited to two meetings to provide briefings on the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development 2023 Spring and Fall Reports.
  5. That the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and government officials be invited to appear before the committee in relation to the Supplementary Estimates (B), 2023-2024.
  6. That the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and the Net-Zero Advisory Board be invited to discuss the 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan by the end of 2023.
  7. That the committee hold three witness meetings on the tidal power projects in Atlantic Canada motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

At 1:09 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:11 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the committee invite Mr. Brad Corson, CEO of Imperial Oil Ltd., and Laurie Pushor, Alberta Energy Regulator President and CEO, to appear by Tuesday, November 14, 2023 for two hours, consistent with the motion passed by this committee on Thursday, April 27, 2023, to brief the members on efforts regarding the tailings pond leakage at Kearl and if this invitation is not accepted by Thursday, November 2, 2023, Mr. Corson and Mr. Pushor be summoned pursuant to Standing Order 108(1) to appear within three weeks of the adoption of this order.

At 1:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
