The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $15,200, for the study of factors leading to the recent fires in Jasper National Park, be adopted.

At 11:19 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 11:21 a.m., the meeting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and following the news of inaction on the part of the Government of Canada regarding a contaminated Transport Canada dock located in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, putting the health and safety of Indigenous communities at risk, the committee:

  1. Invite Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Chief Allan Adam, Mikisew Cree First Nation Chief Billy-Joe Tuccaro, and Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation President Kendrick Cardinal, for a two-hour meeting to testify about how this incident is affecting their communities;
  2. Invite the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Minister of Emergency Preparedness, the Minister of Indigenous Services, and the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations for a two-hour meeting to explain federal government decisions as it relates to this incident;
  3. Invite the Environment Commissioner from the Office of the Auditor General to share findings of his audit of Contaminated Sites in the North as it relates to this incident for one hour of testimony; and
  4. Invite Mandy Olsgard, toxicological advisor for the impacted nations, to share her findings of the reviews and studies she conducted at the request of the impacted nations for one hour of testimony.

That the Chair of the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development write a letter to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities to inquire whether their committee intends to undertake a study on the issue. Should the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities decide not to proceed with a study, or if no response is received by Monday, October 28, 2024, the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development shall proceed with its own study; this study will begin only after the committee has completed witness testimony for the following studies: factors that led to the recent fires in Jasper National Park, environment and climate impacts related to the Canadian financial system, and the briefing on the net zero accelerator fund.

That these three meetings be televised.

At 11:58 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, April 11, 2024, the committee resumed its study of profits and emissions reduction efforts in Canada's oil and gas industry.

The committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 12:29 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:33 p.m., the meeting resumed.

At 12:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
