Minutes of Proceedings
It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Health to appear before the Committee at the earliest opportunity to discuss and answer questions concerning her mandate letter and her expectations of the Committee.
It was agreed, — That the Committee request the Minister of Health to provide a response to the Committee on the recommendations of the electronic cigarettes study completed in March 2015 and on the recommendations of the Health Canada’s Safety Code 6 completed in June 2015.
Don Davies moved, — That the Committee request a briefing from Health Canada officials on the 2015 Canada Health Act Annual Report and the status of Canada’s health care system.
K. Kellie Leitch moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words "Health Canada officials", the words "and the Public Health Agency of Canada".
The question was put on the amendment of K. Kellie Leitch and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 8; NAYS: 0.
It was agreed, — That the motion, as amended, be adopted.
The motion, as amended, read as follows:
That the Committee request a briefing from Health Canada officials and the Public Health Agency of Canada on the 2015 Canada Health Act Annual Report and the status of Canada’s health care system.
Don Davies moved, — That the Standing Committee on Health request a briefing from officials of the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Canadian Blood Services, on the status of the Zika virus outbreak, the health threats of this disease for Canadians, if any, and the current efforts by the Public Health Agency of Canada and Canadian Blood Services to address the public health implications of this virus.
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.
It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Monday, February 22, 2016, to discuss committee business.
