The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Libby Davies, Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, James Lunney, David Wilks and Terence Young.

Acting Members present: Marc-André Morin for Dany Morin.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst ; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Rona Ambrose, P.C., M.P., Minister of Health.

Witnesses: Department of Health: George Da Pont, Deputy Minister. Public Health Agency of Canada: Krista Outhwaite, Associate Deputy Minister; Gregory Taylor, Chief Public Health Officer. Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Bruce Archibald, President. Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Alain Beaudet, President. Department of Health: Paul Glover, Associate Deputy Minister. Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Paul Mayers, Vice-President, Policy and Programs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5) and the motion adopted on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2014-15: Votes 1b and 5b under CANADIAN FOOD INSPECTION AGENCY, vote 5b under CANADIAN INSTITUTES OF HEALTH RESEARCH, votes 1b, 5b and 10b under HEALTH, votes 1b, 5b and 10b under PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCY OF CANADA, referred to the Committee on Wednesday November 5, 2014.

By unanimous consent, the Chair called votes 1b and 5b under CANADIAN FOOD INSPECTION AGENCY.

The Minister made a statement and, with George Da Pont, Alain Beaudet, Bruce Archibald, Gregory Taylor and Krista Outhwaite, answered questions.

At 12:09 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:13 p.m., the sitting resumed.
