The Standing Committee on Finance met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Joyce Bateman, Hon. Scott Brison, Hon. Ron Cannan, Raymond Côté, Nathan Cullen, Pierre Dionne Labelle, James Rajotte, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Toronto Financial Services Alliance: Janet Ecker, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Council of Chief Executives: Brian Kingston, Senior Associate. Finance Montréal: Eric Lemieux, Director General.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 03, 2015, the Committee resumed its study on the Canadian Renminbi Trading Centre.
 

Janet Ecker, Brian Kingston and Eric Lemieux made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Joyce Bateman, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 20,000, for study on the Canadian Renminbi Trading Centre, be adopted.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Andrew Saxton moved, — That the Committee, at the request of the Minister of Finance, undertake a study of the cost, economic impact, frequency and best practices to address the issue of terrorist financing both here in Canada and abroad.

 

Raymond Côté moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “Canada and abroad” the following: “for the duration of four (4) meetings”.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Raymond Côté and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 5.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

 

At 10:37 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
