The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 8:31 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. John McKay, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Bourgeois, Blaine Calkins, Siobhan Coady, Jacques Gourde, Ed Holder, Pat Martin, Hon. John McKay, Hon. Geoff Regan, Robert Vincent and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Denis Coderre for Siobhan Coady, Earl Dreeshen for Paul Calandra, Marc Lemay for Robert Vincent and Francis Valeriote for Hon. Geoff Regan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Édison Roy-César, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hon. Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

 

Witnesses: Department of Transport: Yaprak Baltacioglu, Deputy Minister. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Sanjeev Chowdhury, Director General, Programs, Summits Management Office. As an individual: Bernard Côté. Infrastructure Canada: John Forster, Associate Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c)(iv) and 108(3)(c)(viii) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 7, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the effectiveness, management and operation of the expenses incurred for the G8/G20 Summits.
 

The Ministers made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 9:33 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:36 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c)(i) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the management of the Department of Public Works and Government Services in awarding of contracts for the renovation of parliamentary buildings.
 

On motion of Denis Coderre, ORDERED, — That the evidence to be given by Bernard Côté in relation to the management of the Department of Public Works and Government Services in awarding of contracts for the renovation of parliamentary buildings be taken under oath or by solemn affirmation.

 

Bernard Côté made a solemn affirmation and was examined.

 

At 10:42 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
