The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Fast, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joe Comartin, Bob Dechert, Ed Fast, Derek Lee, Marc Lemay, Serge Ménard, Brian Murphy, Rick Norlock, Daniel Petit, Brent Rathgeber and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Alexandra Mendes for Hon. Marlene Jennings.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Robin MacKay, Analyst. House of Commons: Mariane Beaudin, Committee Clerk.

 

Appearing: Hon. Rob Nicholson, P.C., M.P., Minister of Justice.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Donald K. Piragoff, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Sector; Carole Morency, Acting General Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section; Matthias Villetorte, Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, December 6, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-54, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sexual offences against children).
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Carole Morency, answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Bill C-54, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sexual offences against children), the proposed budget in the amount of $15,250, be adopted.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
