The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met by teleconference at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 213 Wellington Building, the Vice-Chair, Bill Matthews, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Blaine Calkins, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Bill Matthews, Scott Simms and Peter Stoffer.

 

Other Members present: Nancy Karetak-Lindell.

 

Senators present: Hon.Willie Adams

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Iviq Hunters and Trappers Association: Jaypetee Akeeagok, Chairman. Arctic Fisheries Alliance: Harry Earle. Resolute Bay Hunters and Trappers Association: Isaac Kalluk, Chairman. Ikajutit Hunters and Trappers Organization: Tommy Kilabuk, Chairman. Nattivak Hunters and Trappers Association: Lootie Toomasie, Chairman.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 14, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Operation and Maintenance of Small Craft Harbours.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:41 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair send a letter to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans requesting information on the Larocque decision within ten days.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $174,216, for the Committee’s travel to St. John's, Bay Roberts, Twillingate, St. Peter's Bay, Yarmouth, Bathurst and Gaspé from February 24 to 29, 2008 be adopted and that the Vice-Chair present the said budget to the Liaison Committee.

 

At 11:08 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
