The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Paul Crête, Dean Del Mastro, Rick Dykstra, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Ted Menzies, Rob Merrifield, Thomas J. Mulcair, Massimo Pacetti, Thierry St-Cyr, Hon. Garth Turner and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Jean-Yves Laforest for Thierry St-Cyr, John Maloney for Hon. John McKay, John Maloney for Massimo Pacetti, Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. John McCallum, Hon. Andrew Telegdi for Hon. Garth Turner and Hon. Robert Thibault for Hon. John McKay.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its pre-budget consultations.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
At 5:31 p.m. the Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2)and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, the Committee recommends that the government promptly introduce the tax measures in the unanimous report of February 2007 entitled Manufacturing: Moving Forward - Rising to the Challenge and that the adoption of this motion be reported to the House at the earliest opportunity
 

Paul Crête moved, — In accordance with Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Finance recommends that the government promptly introduce the tax measures in the unanimous report of February 2007 entitled Manufacturing: Moving Forward — Rising to the Challenge and that the adoption of this motion be reported to the House at the earliest opportunity.

 

Rick Dykstra moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words "promptly introduce" and by subtituting the following therefore:

"act upon the recommendations in".

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Rick Dykstra and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 7.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 0.

 

At 5:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
