Meeting No. 13

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 1:51 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Crête, Dean Del Mastro, Rick Dykstra, Hon. John McCallum, Ted Menzies, Rob Merrifield, Thomas J. Mulcair, Massimo Pacetti, Hon. Garth Turner and Mike Wallace.

In attendance: House of Commons: Catherine Cuerrier, Committee Clerk . Library of Parliament: Alexandre Laurin, Analyst.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, December 4, 2007, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-28, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 19, 2007 and to implement certain provisions of the economic statement tabled in Parliament on October 30, 2007.

Thomas J. Mulcair moved, — That the Committee agree to hear witnesses on Bill C-28 and, in order to expedite the committee's study, the Committee hold extra meetings on Thursday, December 6, 2007 and Monday December 10, 2007, and that immediately after the Committee finishes hearing witnesses, it move to clause by clause consideration of Bill C-28, and agree to report the bill back to the House of Commons on or before Tuesday, December 11, 2007.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 1; NAYS: 9.

It was agreed on division, — That the First Report of the Subcommittee on Bill C-28 be adopted as the Report of the Standing Committee on Finance.

It was agreed on division, — That the Chair be instructed to present the Report to the House.

At 1:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
