The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: City of Burnaby: Sav Dhaliwal, Councillor; Basil Luksun, Director, Planning and Building. Burnaby School District: Diana Mumford, Trustee. Fraser Health: Karen Roth, Public Health Nurse, Burnaby Health Promotion and Prevention. Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops: Most Rev. Roger Ébacher, Chairman (Archbisbop of Gatineau), Episcopal Commission for Social Affairs; Most Rev. Brendan M. O'Brien, (Archbishop of St. John's), Episcopal Commission for Social Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Refugee Issues.
 

Sav Dhaliwal, Diana Mumford and Karen Roth made statements, and with Basil Luksun, answered questions.

 

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Most Rev. Brendan M. O'Brien and Most Rev. Roger Ébacher made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
