Tuesday, September 26, 2006

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:23 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst ; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Immigrant Settlement Sector Alliance (CISSA): Reza Shahbazi, Chair; Fariborz Birjandian, Member-at-large; Chris Friesen, Secretary; Bridget Foster, Member-at-large; Stephan Reichhold, Member-at-large.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, the Committee commenced its study of Refugee Issues.

Reza Shahbazi, Fariborz Birjandian, Chris Friesen, Bridget Foster and Stephen Reichhold made statements and answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

The Chair presented the 2nd Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:
