The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met in camera at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Serge Cardin, David Chatters, John Duncan, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Rick Laliberte, Yvan Loubier, Pat Martin, Guy St-Julien and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Binet for Hon. André Harvey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mary Hurley, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the members of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources ask that their Chair repeat the action taken in previous sessions to divide the committee so that aboriginal affairs and natural resources become the mandates of two separate standing committees.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of Natural Resources be invited to appear on April 20, 2004, at 9:00 a.m..

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee examine matters relating to housing and negotiations on self-government, according to the availability of potential witnesses, at the meeting of April 22, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee examine matters relating to oil pipelines, coastal underwater natural resources or softwood lumber, according to the availability of potential witnesses, at the meeting of April 27, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting of April 29, 2004, be set aside to study Bill C-31, An Act to give effect to a land claims and self-government agreement among the Tlicho, the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada, to make related amendments to the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, if it is referred to the Committee.

 

At 10:25 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
