The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Serge Cardin, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, John Duncan, Hon. André Harvey, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Rick Laliberte, Pat Martin, Guy St-Julien, Chuck Strahl and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Yvon Charbonneau for Lawrence O'Brien, John O'Reilly for Stan Dromisky, Bernard Patry for Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Karen Redman for Stan Dromisky.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2004-2005: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, L20, L25 and 30 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
 

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, L20, L25 and 30 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT.

 

The Hon. Andy Mitchell made a statement and, with Caroline E. Davis and Michael Horgan, answered questions.

By unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 39(5)(b), the Committee commenced consideration of the failure of the Ministry to respond to written question No. Q-42 on the Order Paper referred to the Committee on March 29, 2004 and which read as follows: - Mr. Duncan (Vancouver Island North) - How much money has the government transferred to the Métis Nation of Ontario each fiscal year for the period 1994-2003?
