Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, December 8, 2021, the committee resumed its study of the situation in Afghanistan.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.

On motion of Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe, it was agreed, — That the Committee request that the Minister of Justice and officials of the Department of Justice appear before it regarding the application of section 83.03 of the Criminal Code and other anti-terrorism provisions to Canadian NGOs operating in Afghanistan; that the committee hear their testimony for one hour on May 30, 2022.

At 2:17 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:22 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Mohammed Zarif Mayar, Warda Shazadi Meighen, and Kimahli Powell, made statements and answered questions.

Alex Ruff gave notice of the following motion:

That the Privy Council Office, Global Affairs Canada, and the Canadian Armed Forces and any other government department provide the Special Committee on Afghanistan the already completed or draft after action review reports with respect to the evacuation of Kabul in August of 2021 from the respective departments to the Afghanistan committee for inclusion in the report due back to the House by the 8th of June, 2022.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Alex Ruff moved, — That the Privy Council Office, Global Affairs Canada, and the Canadian Armed Forces and any other government department provide the Special Committee on Afghanistan the already completed or draft after action review reports with respect to the evacuation of Kabul in August of 2021 from the respective departments to the Afghanistan committee for inclusion in the report due back to the House by the 8th of June, 2022.

Debate arose thereon.

Pam Damoff moved, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words “for inclusion in the report back to the House by June 8, 2022.".

At 3:28 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Alex Ruff moved, — That the committee do now adjourn.
