Pursuant to the order of reference of Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, June 1, 2020, the committee resumed its study of the Investment Canada Act.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Nathaniel Erskine-Smith gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology invite senior representatives from Loblaw Companies Ltd., Metro Inc. and Empire Company Ltd. to explain their decisions to cancel, on the same day, the modest increase in wages for front-line grocery store workers during the pandemic, including how those decisions are consistent with competition laws.

At 1:01 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
