Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Vice-Chair.

On motion of David de Burgh Graham, it was agreed, — That Kennedy Stewart be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $27,900, for the study of the use of Indigenous languages in proceedings of the House of Commons, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the use of Indigenous languages in proceedings of the House of Commons, the study description provided by the analysts be adopted.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(iii) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 2, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of the use of Indigenous languages in proceedings of the House of Commons.

The Hon. Serge Joyal made a statement.

At 11:17 a.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

At 11:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Hon. Dennis Glen Patterson made a statement and, with the Hon. Serge Joyal, answered questions.

Danielle Mager, by videoconference from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, made a statement and, with Floyd McCormick, by videoconference from Whitehorse, Yukon, answered questions.

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
