The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Christopherson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Malcolm Allen, John Carmichael, David Christopherson, Ted Falk, Alain Giguère, Bryan Hayes and Stephen Woodworth.

Acting Members present: Kelly Block for Jay Aspin, Joe Daniel for John Carmichael and Scott Simms for Yvonne Jones.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Édison Roy-César, Analyst ; Alex Smith, Analyst.

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Michael Ferguson, Auditor General of Canada; John Affleck, Principal; Colin Meredith, Director. Statistics Canada: Wayne Smith, Chief Statistician of Canada; Stéphane Dufour, Assistant Chief Statistician, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 12, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of Chapter 8, Meeting Needs for Key Statistical Data — Statistics Canada, of the Spring 2014 Report of the Auditor General of Canada, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

Michael Ferguson and Wayne Smith made statements and answered questions.

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite witnesses to appear on Thursday, November 6, 2014, concerning the Public Accounts of Canada 2014, which were referred to the Committee on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.

It was agreed, — That the Clerk, in collaboration with the Chair of the Committee, organize the appearance of witnesses for meetings during the week of November 17 to 21, 2014, concerning Chapter 3, Aggressive Tax Planning, of the Spring 2014 Report of the Auditor General of Canada and/or Chapter 6, Transfer Payment Programs — Canadian Northern Development Agency, of the Spring 2014 Report of the Auditor General of Canada and that the Clerk work with the Office of the Auditor General of Canada in regard to the upcoming tabling of the 2014 Fall Report expected to be tabled on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
