The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 11:37 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair of the Committee, the Hon. Peter Kent, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Corneliu Chisu, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Hon. Peter Kent, Jean-François Larose, Élaine Michaud, Joyce Murray, Rick Norlock and John Williamson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of National Defence to appear before the Committee on the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2013-14 and on the Main Estimates 2014-15.

 

It was agreed, — That the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met Tuesday, February 11, 2014, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following:

That, in relation to its study of the defence of North America, the Standing Committee on National Defence travel to CFB Bagotville, CFB Gagetown, CFB Halifax, the Irving Shipyards in Halifax, Nova Scotia, CFB Trenton, CFB Winnipeg, JTF-N Yellowknife, and to northern CAF locations, such as Cambridge Bay, Resolute Bay and CFS Alert, during the spring and summer of 2014, and that the Clerk, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a budget for travel.

 

It was agreed, — That Committee members submit their lists of witnesses for the study on the defence of North America to the Clerk, by Monday, March 31, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That the speaking notes for the Minister of National Defence on the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2013-14 and Communications Security Establishment Canada intelligence-gathering policies and practices, distributed today, be handed over to the Clerk.

 

At 12:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
