The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Chisholm, Ryan Cleary, Patricia Davidson, Randy Kamp, François Lapointe, Ryan Leef, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Robert Sopuck, John Weston and Rodney Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Thai Nguyen, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Marvin Hildebrand, Director General, Market Access; Kevin Thompson, Director, Government Procurement, Trade and Environment Division.

 

Participants present: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Torsten Ström, General Counsel, Trade Law Bureau.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Ryan Cleary gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee immediately undertake a study on the impacts of the cuts to the inshore shrimp quota off the coast of Newfoundland & Labrador on fishermen and the local economy; and that the study include a review of the Department of Fisheries and Ocean’s science related to the shrimp fishery and the management policy known as last in first out; and that witnesses include but are not limited to: DFO officials, DFO scientists, local fishermen, and local processors.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 24, 2014, the Committee resumed a briefing on the European Union's ban on Canadian seal product imports.
 

Marvin Hildebrand made a statement and, with Kevin Thompson, answered questions.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
