The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Candice Hoeppner, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Hon. Rick Casson, Raymonde Folco, Candice Hoeppner, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Maurice Vellacott, Jeff Watson and Alice Wong.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Tony Martin, Todd Norman Russell for Hon. Maria Minna and Mario Silva for Michael John Savage.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: France Bonsant, Compton—Stanstead. As an individual: Mr. Eric Couture, Researcher, Bloc Quebecois Research Bureau. Association québécoise Plaidoyer-Victimes: Arlène Gaudreault, President. Association of Families of Persons Assassinated or Disappeared: Michel Laroche, President. As an individual: Martin Provencher.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Raymonde Folco, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $4,200, for the study of Bill C-343, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Insurance Act (family leave) be adopted.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 28, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-343, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Insurance Act (family leave).
 

The Chair calls Clause 1.

 

France Bonsant made a statement and, with Eric Couture, answered questions.

 

Michel Laroche, Arlène Gaudreault and Martin Provencher made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:12 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:14 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
